[Reader-users] polerizers

The polarizers are plastic. I would be concerned about clarity of the image
if any other substance is applied over them.
Our solution is a silicon skin that fits over the entire device like a very
tight glove. This is a product made to protect the Nokia phone. Holes have
been cut through the silicon skin to expose the camera lense and flash
output plus other things like the power connector and usb port.
Thanks, J. G.

Dear All,
I would like to ask this question of Jim Gashal to see if there is a
solution to this minor problem.
I do not have my KNFB Reader Mobile as yet, but expect that I will face the
same situation.
I am an engineer and would like to ask if anyone has considered applying a
thin coating of clear lacquer to the polarizer's to get them to stick to the
lens and flash better.
We use to use clear lacquer over the aluminum alarm tape that was applied to
glass windows, to ensure that if the glass was broken in a robbery, the thin
tape would also break and not just pull away from the glass causing the
alarm to fail.
I would ask if the lens and the flash cover is made of plastic or glass.
Some plastics might be harmed and react to the clear lacquer chemically,
but glass will not.
Also the plastic used on the camera and phone.
Some testing might be needed to check this out and to see if it will protect
and keep the polarizer's in place and cause no performance effects on the
unit.
You could still replace polarizer's, if needed, as the clear lacquer could
still be peeled off or removed using lacquer thinner such as nail polish
remover on a rag.
This would be good to know as it might help to fix the moving or loss of the
polarizer's.
I think that this should be tested in the lab first, before anyone does it
to their unit and even then much caution would be needed as the lacquer
could react with other parts of the unit such as plastics or electronic
parts.
Please let us know if this method will work or if or if not recommended.
Temperature can effect to glue that is on the plastic polarizer's,
especially over time, causing them to slip or slide out of position.
Has any thought been given to placing the polarizer's on the inside of the
lens to prevent damage or loss?
I know that the reader will still work, even without the polarizer's, but it
works with them even better according to what I have read on this list.
