[Reader-users] help re-calibrating reader?

Terry, I don't want to be argumentative, but the issue of whether or not to
design the unit so we could calibrate it is not one over which we had
control. The machine we purchased for our first batch of readers was
state-of-the-art. We knew this was a limitation, and the manual mentions
extensively the problem. I am not trying to say I like the fact that I
cannot recalibrate, but Kurzweil and the NFB used the best technology that
was available and brought the reader to the blind. This is not a feature we
can design into the machine, but it is a problem we can avoid having to
face, and it is one which is easily overcome if and when it happens.
If your desktop or laptop machine has a problem in bios which happens before
Windows is fully loaded, you will need sighted assistance. At some level
this is a fundamental truth for all too many blindness products - they are
still designed at their core to display to their own screens, and our
software is an add on which assumes correct operation of the Operating
System.
