[Reader-users] help re-calibrating reader?

Hi, Ed.

I know Dave will be able to help you recalibrate your Reader pretty quickly
once you're in Washington. But if you and your wife have a chance to work on
it on your own before that, what you could try doing is the following:

Plug in the Reader and turn on the power by pressing the small power button
on the top left side of the Reader. It's a small recessed button that isn't
always easy to notice right away. Once you've pressed it and the power's
restored, the menus should come up with instructions on resetting the date
and time. Then, just reinstall the software.

Will there be anyone I can see Monday at Washington to help re-calibrate my
reader? My sighted wife will be there, too, and she could learn to do it for
me should the need arise again.

In December I went on a trip where I would not need it, and I left it
plugged in to maintain the charge, but it was accidentally touched and the
wire fell out. When I got home it was dead.

I find this to be a major flaw in the reader. The cord from the transformer
makes a very weak connection, and I frequently find it out. Fortunately it
is
rarely out for more than one day when I go to use the reader, and nothing
was lost.
