Simple, because the application is handling it's own properties, not the
phone as such.

I do not think you understood my question. With the speech from the
software in the reader package, why won't the phone also work using that
speech? If it can read text, then it has a large enough dictionary.

Terry, just having speech doesn't mean you have the power of a screen
reader - there are lots of speech packages that can verbalize a string
of text you send to them, and even some which can read what you put on a
clipboard, but this doesn't mean they have the computer intelligence to
figure out what needs to be read and in what order.
