[Reader-users] battery life

I think the reason the answers vary may be that technology going into
various types of batteries evolves over time -- maybe the newer batters,
which are smaller than those in phones just a couple years ago, are either
more disposable or have longer lives. I speak speculatively as I don't know
much about battery technology. But some 15 years ago when I bought a
cam-corder, the instructions on the battery (which was huge) said that the
battery should be drained of all charged at least periodically to eliminate
degradation of performance -- there was even a hot switch on the charger
that did nothing but drain the battery of any remaining charge, which tool
several minutes, and when that was done, it would take overnight to recharge
it.
I forget if that was a nickel cadmium battery or lithium or whatever.
Cheers.

If we are talking about lithium-ion batteries, I think that as much as
anything the battery life is dependent upon the passage of time. I think
that in the small print that most manufacturers send with these kind of
batteries, you find that they have from 18 to 24 months of adequate
performance from the time of manufacture. How often you charge or whether
you wait until the battery is almost fully discharged is probably of less
consequence than the actual age of the battery.
