[Reader-users] battery life

Hi -- I recently bought a crazy "survival kit" for a camper in my family
that included a crankup battery recharger for a cell phone for times the
person is stranded out of range of electrical outlets and needs a cell phone
charge. I wonder if they sell these in the stores. I got it bundled with a
bunch of other odd gadgets...
As for better life on cell phones, I typically run out of juice quickly on
my cell phone not because of a lot of calling, but because I have the volume
turned up loud, as I am hard of hearing. With my hearing aids I hear well
enough for most face to face conversation, but on the cell phone, I tend to
hear all the vowels and not all the consonents (as these are high pitched as
opposed to vowels which are in the low to mid ranges). Consequently I turn
up the volume of my screen reader and also use speakerphone to hear the
person at the other end, especially when there is a lot of background noise.
Perhaps for those with better hearing the battery life would be longer.

This does not surprise me. I have been running a very similar phone, the
N70, for a couple of years now with Talkx and also using the camera whenever
I go on a trip. Or rather the kids run off with it into the shrubbery.

When I am using it like that, the lifespan drops to around a day.

As far as I know, these range of phones does not have a replacable battery.
Does anybody know if there is a portable charging unit of some sort i.e. one
you don't have to plug into the mains?

That's interesting, I use my phone quite a bit, for reading, emailing,
texting and for phone calls and the most I've had to charge it was every
other day. I've had it go for almost 4 and a half days when I didn't use it
as much.

Cheers.

Sachin

Hi again all --
I just wanted to comment on the battery life I have experienced with the
mobile reader. Essentially, using the phone as a cell phone and reader, I
have it talking quite a bit during the day and I find I need to recharge it
every 24 hours. This is kind of often in my view -- I think of a cell phone
lasting 4-7 days without a charge, but the mobile reader obviously has to
work harder than the average phone.
I also have the volume at or near maximum as I am hard of hearing (wear
hearing aids). Anyway, I'd be very interested in what other people have
experienced with the reader.
Thanks and happy reading!
