[Reader-users] crashed reader

Have you tried firstly just resetting the reader?

With my model B it's either:
Reset-Reboot the System (don't think this one is specific to models)--
Long press F4, then release and press F3.

or else, on the lower left edge of my model B there's a reset button which
will make it reboot properly as well.

If that doesn't work, have you tried going through the installation process
using the installation SDRam card that's basically what you use when
upgrading the software anyway?

Can't remember the exact details, but when you download the versions of the
software, there are instructions there, and basically what you do is first
turn on the unit, then insert the card with the correct file structure on it
into the slot, and it should automatically start the clean install process.

If neither of these work, then you might still have to either take it to a
KNFB dealer, or maybe (if it's simpler) first try a PDA techie, but that
might not help if the problem is specific to the software.
