Terry,

Have you checked to see if the camera is connected correctly to the 
backplane?  Sometimes, if the little connection comes apart, it will act as 
you say yours is.  Lay the reader on a table with the end which has the 
buttons toward you and open the flap on the case.  Check to see if the 
camera is firmly connected.  If it's at all loose, look between the camera 
and backplane.  On the left side of the camera, as it's lying on the table, 
there is a slot that the male connected on the backplane fits into.  Make 
sure this connection is secure, close the flap tightly and see if that 
helps.
