Terry,
I heard the word "tilt" used in discussion, and being the somewhat
literalist <is there such a word?> that I am I thought of a slant. Ok,
thanks for clarifying that for me.

Hi Pam;
Cindy did a great job, but I want to say a little more. What made you think
of tilting the camera in the first place? Is it a problem you are trying to
correct or did someone tell you that you needed to tilt the camera?
The less tilt, the better the clerity. When a camera man takes a picture,
he either holds the camera or puts it on a tripod to take a picture. He
wants direct focus on his picture. If he tilts the camera down towards the
grownd, he might lose some of the top of his picture and also the lower part
of the picture might be darker due to shaddows.
When we take a picture of a document, we want even clerity from top to
bottem and side to side.
Also, my e-mail, yesterday about the percentage in the field of view report
might help.
In this e-mail, we are talking of tilting from floor to ceiling and the
field of view report talks of tilting clockwize and counter clockwize or
left to right and back.

Pam,
The camera is the part which kind of hangs down from the PDA. When you're
holding the Reader above the paper, the PDA should be level. The Reader
should not be tilted, at all, if you can help it. If you'll feel the
opening of the case where the camera is, (the part which protrudes from the
PDA), you'll feel a circle. This is where the lens opens to take the
picture. This needs to be pointed at the paper. That's why some people say
is you place the Reader flat on a page and lift straight up, you should get
a good picture. I guess you need to know that it means to place the camera
(smallest part of the Reader) flat, so the PDA is level, then lift the
entire reader up.

I am trying to determine how to recognize and perfect the tilt. I'm
imagining it as a kind of downward slant, placing the camera at the proper
height, but closer to the paper than the pda. Is this assumption correct?
Can anyone possibly describe what position I'm trying to find? Is it a
steep angle? Shannon first told me of this privately in a phone
conversation, and I think I have the idea, but wanted to run my idea by the
list to get any further clarification from anyone. My spatial judgment is
somewhat off, so the more possible illustrations I can get of this idea, the
better.
Thanks, as always.
Pam

Hi James,
I most definitely shall keep the letter, not only to show what the reader
can do, but also to help me learn to be a better picture taker.
I was getting 2 and a half thirds of the letter, but no matter what I did, I
could not get it all. So when my husband came home, I turned the view
finder on so he could see and we practiced the tilt of the camera.
IN my case, I was holding it high enough, but my tilt was wrong. This is
probably the hardest, (though not really hard), thing about the Reader, is
getting that camera tilt right, especially if you absolutely must, or want
to, read the full page.
I've got the letter saved on my cf card and the original print letter, just
in case I need to practice the tilt some more.
