If you download the software via computer to your SD card, you can
certainly update the Reader.

I used a newer Reader at the Kansas convention. It had different
software also. The F1 and F2 were beside each other and then F3 and F4
were below F1 and F2. Then it sounded different when the camera was
turned on. Can I download software from the computer or do I wait
until
new software comes out. I thought I was fine and used that SD card to
  update my Empower. (grin).

Don't remember now but they are quite brief. Basically what happens is
that a sighted person touches all four corners of the screen,
following
a symbol around the screen. When the PDA gives this the okay, the
system

asks the sighted person for the time zone. When this is entered, it
may
ask for the time (I forget). When this is done, it says the PDA is
ready

for use. However, this is means that it is ready as a normal PDA. At
this point, stick in the SD card with the Reader software and you will
hear appropriate messages telling you that the Reader software is
being
  loaded into the PDA.

You'll probably need to get a sighted person help you recalibrate
the
Reader. Instructions are in he manual.

      Hi List,

Somehow the plug where I charge my reader went bad and
subsequently,
    even
though I have charged the unit fully, I can not get any sound from
  it.
Please tell me what I need to do.

      Thank you,
