Hi Kathy!
The reason I mentioned the Bar Scanner is because we had a nice couple come to our class and demonstrate their technology equipment. They demonstrated a Bar Scanner and a color identifier which were impressive. 

Of course I love my KNFB Reader. I feel that at this time it does best with small items like mail and money.

.You are right on that, Hope. I always use my ID Mate to read cans as it does
.such a good job in reading the bar codes and I can then record cooking
.directions or medication directions or the like using this nifty device.
.The Reader does a good job just doing that...reading text but I do not find
.it practical for identifying food items.
