Hi Joe,
Your not upsetting me by asking thses things - I was only trying to play
devil's advocate so to speak and try to understand Jim and his marketing
team a little.

Subject: [Reader-users] PDA Hardware
Well, I certainly didn't intend to cause any upset on the list.
I absolutely agree that the primary focus for the KNFB Reader should remain
on its primary purpose, that is, as a reading device.
For anyone curious, the PDA runs Windows Mobile 5.0 as far as I know. I am
probably about ready to order the unit, so when I get it, I will share more
about the technical information if anyone is interested.
For those who are less comfortable with exploring and tinkering, my advice
is to use the reader as advised in the documentation, and enjoy it. I have
been involved in software development for roughly 30 years so I naturally
think in different terms.
Actually, I think the PDA has infrared and/or Bluetooth (not sure) so it
could be used with an input device which would communicate in that way. If
there was a means within the reader software to open access it might be
interesting.
I do understand, though, the concern about dealing with keeping the software
stable once the door is opened to regular operating system access.
As I said, please don't take my probing as a criticism and certainly, spend
your time developing the great features which you are adding like inverse
text, etc. There have been some major software upgrades already in the
short life of the reader. By the way, the KNFB's approach to reading US
currency is also a great enhancement. If you compare it to the approach
taken by Mobileyes, KNFB wins hands down. Mobileyes uses a separate
scanning device to do the same job according to the information on their
website.
One last question: can we use larger SD cards than 1GB or is there a problem
doing that?
For any of you who don't have a card reader in your PC and want to transfer
data to and from the reader, you can purchase card readers which plug into
the USB port on your PC for reasonable prices.
Sorry for rambling. I don't make a major purchase decision lightly and I'm
trying to cover all bases and hopefully, share some information along the
way.
God bless,
Joe
