Hi all:

Based on the repeated requests we have received, we have posted version 3.8
on the download page of the knfbreader.com website.  However, we have also
taken it down within the past few minutes due to a problem we discovered.
This means that most of you will not be able to obtain the update until we
perform further analysis and post a version we can stand behind.  

For those of you who may already have version 3.8 running, here is the
description of the problem you may encounter:  In fact, it would help if you
would check the performance of your Reader to see if you can replicate the
problem.  To do that, turn the Reader on and take a picture.  Be sure to
have the Reader set to shut down automatically after a few minutes.  Then,
after you have taken the picture, allow the Reader to turn itself off.  Do
not perform a manual shutdown.  You should then allow the Reader to sit
quietly and unusued for at least two hours or more.  The Reader is likely to
perform just fine if it is switched back on with a shutdown interval that is
less than two hours.  However, if the interval is two hours or longer, we
have found that the Reader may not activate properly when you attempt the
F1-F2 switch on command.  What happens is that the entire screen glows blue
and nothing happens beyond that.  A reset is then necessary to bring the
Reader back to its normal operational state.  

Please note, the above situation does not seem to apply to Readers purchased
from the National Federation of the Blind.  These Readers are using the Asus
730W PDA, which seems to activate correctly after an extended automatic
shutdown.  That may also be the case with most of the Loox units, but at
this point we are uncertain as to the extent of the problem.  

I really do want to apologize for this inconvenience. Our intention is to
put out software that works.  That is the reason we have pulled the release
from the site.  We will have it back up as soon as we are confident that it
will perform as well as the previous versions.

Thank you KNFB!  I must admit that my timing may have been off.  (should
have 
waited an hour longer)  I am looking forward to installing 3.8.0 this
evening.  
I will certainly enjoy the new features and appreciate the continued
software 
development it has taken to advance the reader to this new level.  Reverse 
contrast is, in my opinion a major milestone and worthy of applause.
