Oh no, not another list -- I am already oversubscribed, but I am interested
in the other list -- could you share the name of the list and how to
subscribe? and is it very high volume? I already get almost 1000 messages in
a day and am maxed out on brain cycles, but if the topic is of interest I'll
tune in for a time.
Thanks.

Subject: [Reader-users] multitasking with the reader

Let me try to eliminate some of the threads that have been on this list, and
at the same time try to quiet some of the furor.
I encourage Gabe to leave all discussion concerning using the Reader pda as
a pda, or the camera as a camera, for the list which has been created for
that purpose. It really isn't topical for this list, and make some people
uncomfortable. We may occasionally announce the existence of the other list,
so those new acquirers who want to expand their use of the Reader can come
and learn how, as we figure it out.
Let me explain to a few of you, in perhaps less confrontational terms, why
some of us want to explore this. Our interest in doing so does not in the
least compel you to share our interest. I'll make the explanation personal:
I want a small portable device I can carry around instead of hauling my
laptop. there are many reasons for such a desire, and I suspect many of you
share some of them. Now, I know I in fact have such a device in my
possession: the Reader is, at its core, a pda to which specialized software
has been added and to which a camera has been joined. So if I can learn,
without hampering the reader's functionality, to get more out of this
device, it could mean that I save myself at least $400. If any of you would
voluntarily spend $400 you can avoid spending, please write to me, as I'd
love to try to talk you out of some of your money. [g]
Of course, this may prove not to be possible, or to be more trouble than
it's worth, and of course I don't expect any encouragement from the KNFB
people; they'll only make this possible when competition forces them to do
so, and so far it does not.
That's it in a nutshell, so these efforts should not bother or threaten any
happy Reader users. I hope discussions of them continue on the other list.
Dean
