Both:

On this list quite a few were automatically subscribed to the
Pioneers list, then converted over.  However, on our other lists
people do subscribe, but don't seem to have a clue.

I guess this stuff is easy for you and I and others, but for others
it is like a foreign language.

I am surprised at the number of people who can figure out how to 
subscribe but can't figure out how to unsubscribe.  Are some 
people automatically subscribed or are they just a bit lazy?
