Hi Kim:

Without knowing for sure, I would be quite surprised if the
documentation you have is the version written for the wrong Reader.
However, you should remember that the basic difference in the two
readers is the PDA. This causes a few differences in explaining the
operation, but the differences aren't huge. Also, all of the
documentation has the company name, Kurzweil-National Federation of the
Blind Reading Technology, Inc. This may lead you to think that the
documentation has been prepared for the readers sold by the National
Federation of the Blind and not for the readers sold by KESI.

You can know for sure if you have the right documentation by checking
the following: Go to the front page of the User Guide. The version
published for the Reader you have should refer to version 3.0 and have
June, 2006, as the publication date.

The version of the User Guide published for the Readers sold by the
National Federation of the Blind has the address and telephone number
for the National Federation of the Blind on the front page and shows the
publication date of March, 2006.

After you examine the documentation and determine what you have for
sure, you should contact your KESI dealer if it turns out that what you
have is wrong. Finally, the hard copy print and Braille documentation
you have should be identical to the documentation on your Reader. You
can check this by long-pressing F. 1 to go to documentation explorer.

Thanks, J. G.

I got my reader from KES. And--why did I then receive a manual written
for the NFB-style machine? If they're going to sell a reader, they need
to have a manual that reflects the style of the unit that was purchased.
That would be like having a Nokia phone and getting a manual for a
Sansone.

Kimberly:

Did you get your Reader from NFB or K E S? The descriptions you've seen
are of the one from NFB.

Okay, folks-I took a gamble and it paid off. I didn't see
any recessed buttons on the power end of the PDA, but what I did see was
this round button that had a cloth-like or sponge-like structure
covering it. I was never sure what that button was-because it didn't
appear to be described in the manual, and there *is* a round button on
the unit that is nonfunctional for our purposes. But at this point-zero
from zero was zero, so I decided to take a gamble and press on that
sponge-covered button-and the unit reset!

That button is not what I would define "recessed". And also-for those
used to working by touch, it would be extremely helpful if, in future
editions of the manual, this button could be described as having a cloth
or sponge-like covering. That would make it instantly recognizable to a
blind person.
