[Reader-users] flash life and beyond

Hi Vishal:

I estimate that we have had about 25 failures of the type you have
analyzed, and we presently have about 175 Readers out with users.

We distributed about 400 units during our beta test, and most of them
have now been returned to us. We check all of them, and replace spines
as needed. I don't know what we will find as we proceed to prepare
units to be sold, but I suspect it will be approximately the same
porportion as have been found to fail so far.

Also, I have seen a few units that were functioning just fine for many
months but then failed. This leads to the concern that a certain
percentage of the 175 now sold will eventually come back for
replacement. We need to be prepared for that possibility.

Thanks, J. G.

hello James and all, probably when or before parts die you can get a
better camera. There is a powershot sd40 model out that has 7mp that
may improve reading results, it als ohas zoom. I haven't gotten my hands
on one yet or i might have some actual data.
Kevin
