Hi Kim:
The download page has a clear description of the two different hardware
versions. The other way you can know is by checking the serial number
on your Reader. You should find the serial number on the inside portion
of the velcro flap you unfasten to change the camera battery or get
access to the SD card slot. If the print/Braille number you find begins
with 1, you have hardware configuration B. If your number begins with
0, you have hardware configuration A.
Also, if your Reader has only an SD card slot and does not have a
CompactFlash card slot, you have hardware configuration B.
Good luck!

How do you know which hardware configuration you have? I take it you're
not referring to version number.

Beth and all:
The download page for Reader software is now available. The version
posted there is release 3.4.8.
Please be sure to read all the instructions. You will need to be sure
which hardware configuration you have of the two available. The
software you need can only be loaded on the hardware configuration you
have. Otherwise, all of the functionality is exactly the same.
Anyone on this list who has purchased the Reader directly from the NFB
will also receive an upgrade package in the mail. If you are successful
and satisfied with the download and do not want future upgrade packages
sent to you, please send a request to that effect directly to my email
address: <jgashel at nfb.org> Please do not post such requests to this
list since they could be lost.
Good luck with the download.
Thanks, J. G.

Hi, listers. Just wanted to know if anybody had tried out the new
downloadable upgrade, and if so, how does it work? Thanks in advance.
