[Reader-users] models

Hi Le:

We treat both model A and model B as one reader. Both will be supported for
the forseeable future, even when there is an upgrade which replaces the
hardware. At the convention, Ray Kurzweil explained that our policy will be
to provide a very favorable upgrade path from one version of the reader to
another as new hardware becomes available.

The reason for recalibration in the case of model A is that it is the pocket
PC operating system. It is certainly not inferior to model B, and some
people actually prefer it. I tend to believe that there are fewer stability
problems with model A as compared to model B, based on my own experience in
using both. Managing the power to be sure it is not completely drained down
is certainly important but not a problem for people who use the reader
regularly. Obviously there are exceptions to every statement. Anyway,
Please be alert to any future announcements about developments with the
Reader and then you can determine if what you currently have is what you
want to have going forward in the future. Meanwhile, please enjoy what you
have right now and know that it is going to be supported.

Thanks, J. G.

Subject: [Reader-users] models

Greetings and happy holidays!
I just caught up reading the mail from this list over the past couple months

and have a question. Apparently model A of the reader, which I have, needs
to be recalibrated after long unuse due to putting settings in volatile
memory. My question: Is model A going to be phased out? if so, can I
exchange it for model B without significant cost? alternatively, can the
firmware be updated on model A to make wiser use of the memory?
If model A is going away I am rather annoyed it was the only model sold at
this year's convention. It was nice getting the convention discount, but I
would have gladly paid a little more for something that would be supported
longterm.
Finally, I went to knfbreader.com and notice that there hasn't been a new
release in a while. Is a new upgrade coming soon?
Good to read everyone's comments. This is a very informative list.
Thanks in advance!
Rich blessings...
