No, you don't have to do that. You can delete a previous version on an SD
card and reuse that. But, just be sure you have the most recent version on
a card.

Problem is that if you delete the one on your SD card, you have no way
to go back if there's a problem. Best to use two SD cards.

I have 3.8.1 but I wonder in the future when a new release comes out

Maybe in the future, there could be a syncing option which would allow

to plug in and just get it directly into the reader.
