Robert,
               Yes but this is not what happens.  Thise text files do not,  in fact contain text versions of the files.
 
I am beginning to wonder of the formware is corrupted.

Hello Graham,
When you save a document on the reader, it will be saved as xml I
believe is what it saves as since I am not at the reader at the
moment.
When you take the memory card out of the reader, and insert it
into the device of your choice, such as a braillenote, you can go
to the card and you will find a folder called reader text
documents, and you can then open those files you saved on the
reader.
You will not see this folder on the reader, but it is there when
you save documents.
