[Reader-users] Reading Food Cans

I don't think the reader does a good job at all reading labels on cans. For
that, your best bet is to purchase the ID Mate from Envision America. I
love this piece of adaptive equipment and couldn't manage without it. The
ID Mate scans and reads the bar codes on food items and then announces what
it is. In addition, if it doesn't know a certain food item, you can just
get someone sighted to reade it for you and you can record it with your own
voice. You can also record preparation instructions. After you have done
this once, the ID Mate will always have it in its database.

Just thought you might be interested. Of course it is expensive as is the
case for most adaptive equipment items we have to purchase. I was able to
get DBS to purchase the ID Mate for me since I live alone and have no
sighted assistance.
