[Promotion-technology] [nfbcs] Fwd: World's first Web-basedaccessibility tool

Actually, I think there are some situations where video intercepts may
be the only way to get info; mailWasher is one of the apps that requires
this; SA to Go doesn't really give one much info automagically from its
screens. However, you do have a point; it may be quite useful for
instances when one needs to have speech on a machine that doesn't have a
screen-reader on it. But the expense would turn me off.

Well, I ain't one of the NFB or Minnesota technology professionals,
but I do know my way around a computer somewhat...

And I think this is pretty darn slick, actually, just after a cursory
look-through. I mean, OK, DECTalk isn't my favorite voice in the
world, but it's better than Mickeysoft TTS anyway, and smaller than
just about anything. It loads and starts up pretty quick on a couple
reasonably fast machines running XP (no speed demons, but not P3/450's
either). It looks like it'll be a fantastic solution for what most of
us will use most of the time away from our own computers. Think
cybercafes or libraries, guys. This is fantastic! The only thing I'm
wondering about is--how much will it eventually cost?

Currently, Freedombox service (just the FB Network, no SystemAccess)
is $229 for the first year, $129 thereafter. And getting System Access
is even more as you go up the ol' ladder. $499 for System Access plus
the Freedombox Network, if memory serves. I wish they had a monthly FB
  network option, for instance.

I think it's interesting, personally, that we're going back to a model
where software resides somewhere else and our computers access it
remotely. Sounds a bit like what people did 20 and 30 years ago. What
is old is new again, I guess.
