Subject: Join us to discuss requirements for MathML-in-DAISY production
tools
Dear All,
On behalf of the MathML-in-DAISY Working Group, I am sending this invitation
to discuss production tool requirements.
As you know, A proposal to develop a MathML modular extension to DAISY is
being prepared.
A draft was announced in September. See
http:/;/www.daisy.org/projects/mathml/mathml-in-daisy-spec.html
for details of the proposal.
As part of the formal process, the MathML in DAISY working group hopes
to develop a sample MathML component for a production tool to demonstrate
the feasibility
of including MathML in a DAISY book. The MathML production tool effort is
being
led by Design Science.
The purpose of this conference call is to give a brief review of what is
involved in including math in DAISY and to discuss the needs of production
tool vendors in the hopes that:
A.) a developer is interested in working with Design Science to produce a
proof-of-concept
sample production tool that follows the proposed modular extension
b.) the architecture of the MathML part of the tool is general enough that
it can
be easily made to work with multiple vendors products.
Neil Soiffer, the Chair of the MathML-in-DAISY working group, will chair
this conference call. It is expected to be one hour.
Design Science is hoping to develop a commercial plug in/tool to support the
inclusion of MathML in the DAISY/NISO Standard 2005.
The information gathered on this call will be open and publicly available.
