Good morning!
Our hearts are heavy as we share the unimaginable loss of our beloved friend and mentor, Treva.
At just 47, Treva left us far too soon, and though we are grateful she is now at peace and no longer struggling, the void she leaves behind is profound.
In addition to being an active Federationist in Indiana and Maryland, Treva was a guiding force in the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana—a dedicated leader whose commitment to our movement was matched only by her boundless compassion. She held many positions during her time in Louisiana including chapter president, NFBL 1st vice president, and state scholarship chair.
She was a gifted teacher who believed in the limitless potential of blind children and dedicated her life to helping them learn to read and thrive. A proud 2012 graduate of LCB and 2014 graduate of Louisiana Tech, Treva found so many ways to give back! Treva encouraged others through her faith and her example. She loved helping others sharpen their presentation and public speaking skills through her work with our Toastmasters chapter. As a gifted educator, Treva had a special passion for helping blind children learn to read and to believe in themselves. She poured her heart into the NFB BELL Academy, where she found pure joy in watching young blind students grow in confidence, independence, and literacy. For Treva, it wasn’t just about teaching Braille—it was about building the next generation.
Treva was a beloved friend—warm, loyal, and deeply kind. She had a way of making everyone feel heard and valued. Her joyful laugh, her strength, and her kindness lifted all of us. Treva was always up for a fun adventure or ready to take someone on for a game of Scrabble or cards! She leaves behind a legacy of love, advocacy, and excellence. Though our hearts are broken, we will carry her spirit forward in the work she cared about so deeply. We will continue to teach, to lead, and to advocate for a world where blind people—especially children—can live the lives they want.
I know Treva was so looking forward to being together in New Orleans this summer. I know she will be with us in spirit!
Love,
Pam
