Subject: [Wcb-l] State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind

SRC Recruitment

The State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind (SRC for the Blind) is now recruiting to fill several anticipated vacancies on the Council.
The Department of Services for the Blind (DSB) helps people get or keep a job, adapt to vision loss, transition to higher education and employment, and remain active and independent.
The SRC for the Blind advises the Director, the Governor and the Legislature on the needs of blind people and effective service delivery; assists in developing and evaluating Department goals, priorities and policies; conducts customer satisfaction surveys; assists in development of the State Vocational Rehabilitation Plan, needs assessments and other activities; prepares and distributes an annual report to the Governor, the RSA Commissioner and the public; and collaborates closely with other Governor appointed councils.
?The SRC for the Blind is required by federal statute and is a Governor appointed Board. Membership must include representatives from various agencies, boards, tribes, consumer groups, business/labor, and current or former participants in the VR program. A majority of members must be individuals with vision loss. Members are appointed to serve a three-year term and may be appointed to serve a second term.
The SRC for the Blind is currently seeking applicants to fill the following vacancies:
*             Two positions for recipient or former recipient of Vocational Rehabilitation services;
*             One representative of a consumer organization of people who are blind;
*             One representative of individuals who are not able to represent themselves;
*             One representative of a Community Rehabilitation Program;
* Two representatives of business, industry or labor
The Governor wants state Boards to represent the geographic, ethnic and cultural diversity of our state. For this reason, the SRC for the Blind is particularly interested in recruiting applicants from eastern WA, applicants of Asian descent, and applicants under age 40.
The Council generally meets one day per quarter in Seattle and may occasionally meet two days or in another location throughout the state. Each member is expected to serve on one subcommittee which may meet by phone or by other means during the quarter. Members are expected to read and be familiar with meeting materials which are distributed electronically in advance of the meetings.
Travel expenses are reimbursed. Reasonable accommodations necessary to participate in conducting Council business are provided upon request.
                To apply for membership on the Rehabilitation council for the Blind, visit https://fortress.wa.gov/es/governor/boardsapplication. Select Rehabilitation Council for the blind. Applications must be submitted by August 15 to be assured of consideration for these openings but may be submitted at any time for future openings. For more information or assistance regarding the application process, please contact Deb Cook, SRC for the Blind Liaison, debcook at uw.edu<mailto:debcook at uw.edu>
