Is art something that is of interest to you? Are you interested in making
visual paintings accessible? My name is Kyle Rector, and I am a Ph.D.
student from the University of Washington working with Neel Joshi and
Merrie Morris at Microsoft Research on a research project exploring ways to
make paintings accessible for people who are blind or low vision. We are
using technologies including computer vision and social media to make
visual art accessible to patrons who are blind.

We are looking for participants who are blind or low vision who are at
least 18 years old to participate in a user study to explore different
methods to make a visual painting more accessible. The participants will
spend time with 3-5 paintings, we will ask questions about your
experiences, and have participants interact with a painting using the
Microsoft Kinect.

The study will take approximately 1 hour in person at Microsoft.
Participants will be reimbursed with a $100 VISA gift card. If you would
like a sighted companion to accompany you, we can offer an additional $25
VISA gift card to your companion as a gratuity for their time.

If you are interested in giving valuable feedback on our project, please
contact Kyle Rector at rectorky at cs.washington.edu. We will schedule
participants during 10/14 – 10/23.

Feel free to share this invitation with any other people who are blind or
low vision whom you think may be

interested. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you!
