Group health, has always been slow to understand the needs and responsibilities of accommodation for blind and low vision.
Years ago, in Seattle at the Capitol Hill See Center, located on the fifth floor of the building, did not have a braille or tactile information on the elevator buttons.
Unit trying to, logically discuss how this seemed to be an obvious need and a huge oversight, I went through normal channels to complain.
By the time I was done, I was having discussions with the board of trustees for GH see.
After two years of discussion, they finally put braille and tactile in the elevators.
So, a history of missing the point.

Hi,

I recently received this banner announcement from Group Health. Haven't contacted GHC yet to ascertain whether the kiosks are equipt with screenreader software to make the functions accessible to and usable by us! But, I'd be willing to bet a whole bunch of money that they aren't. And, of course, as a "reasonable" accommodation, we will have the availability of live desk folks to help us with the check in process as previously. And, while I believe in readers, and not complaining that everything is accessible, just looking at this from a purely unnecessarily discriminatory point of view, (the technology is certainly available for appropriate screen reader software), we are now asked to disclose our protected health information to persons at the facility that don't necessarily need to know. And, for those who don't care whether others know their health information, I'll just say that's not the point I'm trying to make. I'm just saying, we are likely being left behind (or at least we aren't in the planning process for these things) *again.

Just my thoughts.

/s/

Bennett

• Check in for a walk-in flu shot (at most medical centers).
• Use the large, easy-to-follow touch screens.
• Pay copays and bills with an accepted credit or
debit card.
• Update your personal information.
• Choose from five languages.
• Adjust the screen to accommodate
your height, wheelchair, or walker.

Prefer people? No problem.
Real, live, friendly representatives will still be available to check you in and help you at centrally located check-in desks at all of our clinics.
