The Department of Social and Health Services, Human Resource Division (HRD) is recruiting to fill one full-time permanent Reasonable Accommodation Specialist at the Human Resource Consultant 4 level,  located in Shoreline, Washington.
This position works 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Overnight travel and work beyond the forty hour workweek may be required.

 Duties:

This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Human Resource Division. The Reasonable Accommodation Specialist within Region 2 is responsible for providing consultation on reasonable accommodations and manages the reasonable accommodation process for all open reasonable accommodation cases.

Duties include but are not limited to:

 *   Facilitate the interactive reasonable accommodation process for an assigned area, serving as a resource to Management and Employees.
 *   Provide leadership and technical advice in coordinating DSHS resources to help address reasonable accommodation requests. Identify resources for reasonable accommodation aids and devices. Assist with efforts to obtain and interpret medical documentation.
 *   Provide technical assistance in the interpretation and implementation of Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 1993; RCW 49.60 (Washington Law Against Discrimination); and Section 504, Rehabilitation Act, 1973.
 *   Provide technical assistance in the interpretation of DSHS Administrative Policy 18.26, Reasonable Accommodation and the Reasonable Accommodation Process Guidelines for Managers and Supervisors.
 *   Manage a caseload of reasonable accommodation requests, within established time frames, to include:   1) accommodating an employee in their current position; or 2) when it is determined an employee is unable to perform the essential functions of their current position with or without reasonable accommodation, moving to reassignment; and 3) initiating disability separation when appropriate.
 *   Work cooperatively and positively with Management to facilitate the interactive process, answer questions, resolve technical issues, concerns, etc.
 *   Work cooperatively and positively with Employees to explain the interactive process, answer questions, etc.
 *   Conduct Reasonable Accommodation training.
 *   Recognize and bring forward to supervisor, issues that may create liability for the agency or cause media attention.
 *   Work collaboratively with resource staff including but not limited to Management staff, HRD staff, AAGs, etc., in order to meet the reasonable accommodation needs of DSHS programs and employees.

 Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher with focus on business, human resources, social or organizational behavioral sciences, or related field;

AND

Three (3) years of broad-based professional human resource experience, including facilitating organizational development or change, and advising and consulting on human resource issues.
NOTE: Additional professional level human resource experience may substitute, year for year, for required education.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 *   Possess critical thinking skills.
 *   Have detailed working knowledge of HR related WAC’s, RCW’s, Federal Laws, DSHS/Program policies and procedures, and CBA’s.
 *   Communicate complex concepts, both orally and in writing, in a manner that is understandable, persuasive, and appropriate for the audience. Demonstrate crucial conversation skills.
 *   Use appropriate channels of communication; foster effective working relationships.
 *   Ability to develop and have skills to effectively deliver human resource related training.
 *   Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
 *   Ability to critically analyze problems/data, and develop viable solutions.
 *   Expert level research skills.
