SFS is pleased to present a very special celebration and tribute to the life
of one of the most influential people in the world of Folk Music.Woody
Guthrie. Join Northwest duo "The Wanderers" and recording artist-Guthrie
expert Joel Rafael as they raise the roof in Seattle to celebrate Woody
Guthrie's 100th birthday. This show will have plenty of Guthrie history and
singing! Songs from the obscure to the internationally renowned. Imagine, a
whole night of Woody Guthrie!

Aside from being a folk music duo who have been performing for 53 years,
"The Wanderers" have become the Pacific Northwest's experts on Woody
Guthrie, his life, and his music. Bill Murlin (late of the Bonneville Power
Administration and editor of The Columbia River Collection) and Carl Allen
(10 years as an Inquiring Mind speaker for Humanities Washington and a
Guthrie scholar) will begin the evening with their special tribute program
that includes narrations of Woody's life, many quotes from his sayings and
writings and many of his famous songs from youth through dust bowl through
California, the Pacific Northwest, New York, World War II, kids songs, etc.

The second half of the evening will feature singer/songwriter Joel Rafael.
On six original albums, Rafael has chronicled his life and the world around
him with songwriting rooted in folk tradition. On two other albums, Woodeye
and Woodyboye, Rafael honors the songs of Woody Guthrie. Featuring five
previously unpublished Guthrie lyrics for which Rafael composed music, they
were reissued in 2009 as a two-CD set, The Songs of Woody Guthrie, Volumes 1
and 2, on Inside Recordings. Two of Rafael's co-writes with Woody Guthrie
appear in Every 100 Years - The Woody Guthrie Songbook, published this year
by the Woody Guthrie Archives. www.joelrafael.com

The evening will end with both acts and all concert attendees singing a few
Woody Guthrie songs together, in a spirit of true community!

The concert will begin at 7:30 PM and admission is $16, $14 for SFS and PNA
members, and seniors. Please make reservations by telephone, 206-528-8523 or
