      Dear Neighbors:

      Many of you have written to me in the past regarding the transportation challenges we face in King County. Increased traffic, concerns over global warming, and rising gas prices all contribute to record breaking numbers of people using public transportation. 

      In order to help address the demands for public transportation, Sound Transit has presented three transit expansion packages for public review. The packages all propose an increase in light rail, commuter rail, and regional express bus service. The Sound Transit Board will vote in July on whether to place one of the packages on the November 2008 ballot. 

      I encourage you to learn more about the public comment period and proposed expansion plans by visiting the Sound Transit website. 

      Also, today, Wednesday, May 28, my colleague, Councilmember Larry Gossett, will be hosting a town hall meeting in North Seattle regarding transportation options. Speakers from local transportation agencies will answer questions about Metro bus service, the King County Ferry District, the 520 bridge project, and other transportation issues. 

      The meeting will take place at Roosevelt High School, 1410 Northeast 66th Street, in Seattle, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. You are all welcome to attend.
