[nfbwatlk] More Food for Thought

Hello, all,

I think this is a tremendous discussion. I have always felt that bus fares should be reduced for those on fixed or limited incomes.

But let's take this to the next step or at least another step. How about the extra deduction on income tax? How about the free passesstreduced fees for parks? And don't forget the amount of money we can make before losing SSDI, much more than what a qudraplegic or someone who is deaf receives.

Where does it end? I gmuess, after all, that it is an individual decision.

The following is part of an exchange taking place on another list re use
of fixed-route transit versus paratransit for the blind.

Brian:

The disturbing part of your story is that I believe you worked for
the rehab services administration at that time, and some of your
colleagues didn't get it. These were the diminished expectations
they would pass to state rehab staff that they monitored -- and in
turn those people would expect less of their customers.

Obviously, the thing is more indirect than that, but disturbing
nonetheless.
