[nfbwatlk] Vancouver Cab Closes

The owner claims it was excessive competition from rival cab companies,
most notably Broadway Cab and Radio Cab from Portland. While there may,
indeed, be some truth to this assertion -- Vancouver is one of those
cities that's too small to support many cab companies and cabs but too
large (and growing) to have just one company if it only fields a few
cabs (supposedly Vancouver cab fielded something over twenty cabs but I
never saw much evidence of it) -- I think things are a bit more complex
and I suspect that part of the problem lay in diminished customer
service. Certainly Northwest Cab (which went out of business a month or
two ago) had that problem -- going from exemplary service to slipshod
service except for its dedicated customers. But even with Northwest Cab,
I've heard rumors that there were more problems than simple competition
or lack of service although I suspect these rumors were as much due to
grousing cab drivers as anything else. (I observe that no two cab
drivers ever seem to like each other.)
My mother called Radio Cab a while back and it apparently arrived within
ten minutes. I see no way of guaranteeing this, though, at least quickly
and I must admit to being uneasy at there being no homegrown cab company
in the area now (dunno if County Cab still runs and even if it does, it
tends to take mostly medical cleints so there aren't enough cabs to
handle off-the-street fares.)
Ah well.

Holy *cow.* I don't know why that should surprise me but it does. I
wonder
what happened. I guess if I look at the link I might find out.
