I live in Louisville, the location of this Sunday's Extreme Home
Makeover episode.? The son of the family whose home was redone is
blind.? He is also a wheelchair user, and the family's previous home was
not wheelchair-friendly at all.? Patrick's chair had totally banged up
the inside of the house.? It was hard for him to access places in his
home because of his mobility issues.
I do not know what kinds of technology might have been built into the
house or provided for Patrick.? Patrick is something of a legend in his
own time around town.? He is a gifted musician and a student at the
University of Louisville.? He wished to join the concert band but was
told that he could not be in the concert band unless he was also in the
marching band, and if he were to be in the marching band he was required
to participate in all formations along with the rest of the band.?
His dad changed his work schedule to third shift so that he would be
available to push Patrick's wheelchair through the formations, so that
he could participate in the marching and concert bands.
I don't know what is going to be on the show.? They have been sworn to
secrecy about their house.? But please hold back your emotions about
them redoing a house of a young man who happens to be blind until the
whole story is out.
This has been a blessing to this family.? It was enormously heartwarming
to see how our city came together, and amazing to see the old house come
down and the new one go up in a week's time.? During bad weather too!
Kathryn
