Subject: [sgci-news] Neighborhood Assistance Program launch

Hi,

We want to let you know about the launch of our new Neighborhood Assistance
Program.

The goal of our Neighborhood Assistance Program is to help find practical
solutions to make Seattle neighborhoods better places to live and work as
the city grows. We want to be a resource for Seattleites interested in
helping shape new development and seeking neighborhood improvements.

>From our experience working in neighborhoods, we know that neighborhood
groups can often benefit from help and advice from those who have faced
similar problems. We are now accepting applications from groups that could
use targeted advice and assistance in helping them achieve their objectives.
For an application go to
http://www.greatcity.org/neighborhood-assistance-program/neighborhood-assist
ance-program-application-form . Program participants will receive a two-hour
consultation from one of our team of volunteers.

We have pulled together over twenty volunteers with experience in
neighborhood organizing and planning, architecture, construction, real
estate analysis, traffic and transportation, natural systems, permitting and
land use regulations, alternative energy, co-housing, public art, public
relations and marketing and grant writing. We believe this program can be
particularly helpful to those neighborhoods that may not already have
volunteers with this type of expertise.

Some neighborhood projects we believe we can consult with include responding
to a new development proposal, speaking with neighborhoods who want street
improvements, or developing strategies for parks or open spaces.

We are just getting the program rolling, and want to start with a few
projects where we think we can really add value. So we are approaching you
to see if you know of projects that might be interested in a consultation.
Please consider referring groups you think might be interested in applying
to our program.

If you want to contact us directly before doing so, please contact our new
staff person, Allison Burson. Allison began work as Seattle Great City
Initiative's Program Coordinator in November, after graduating from Wesleyan
University and biking across the country to Seattle. Allison will be taking
the lead coordinating the Neighborhood Assistance Program. To get in touch
with Allison you can call 905 6940 or e mail her at
allison.burson at greatcity.org.

We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Michael McGinn and Allison Burson
