VIPS Meeting - Visually Impaired Persons of Sequim.
  http://www.NFBWCLALLAM.ORG
In attendance (22): President -Kyle Parrish, Ella May Parrish, Dee Mahood, Phyllis Howart, Alta Thomas, Board Member Dan Hosken, Alice and Earl Melicher, Board Member Dorothy Bowie, Treasureer Millie Gersenson, Board Member Verna Lorentzen, Bonnie Buhl, Delise Berdan, Vice President Sherron Smith , Barbara Parrish, John Pfeffer, Secretary Mary Schwetz, Arndt Lorenzen, Anna Mozer, Evie and 2 others.

Meeting called to order at 1:00 p.m.

  Kyle opened the meeting:
  · Introduced Anna Mozer with the Sequim Gazette. She will be speaking to the group and individuals regarding pedestrian safety issues in the community. Anna wrote up two nice articles about pedestrian safety and about VIPS and The Vision Loss Center.
  · Advised that the governors funding package for the talking book and Braille library has been accepted.
  · Sherron and Kyle attended the City Council meeting. Issues were discussed relating to wheelchair and pedestrian access. Kyle felt the City took good notice of these concerns and brief discussion followed regarding improving the sidewalk situation downtown, the safety problems as they relate to Sequim's roundabouts as well as the light at 5th and Hendrickson which is not audible at this time.
  · Vision Loss Center licenses and web page are in order. DBA: Vision Loss Center.
   http://visionlossservices.org/
Looking for a physical location, hopefully within 2 blocks of the bus line. There was a zone meeting held last Saturday. Seven local Lions clubs are involved in assisting with the Low Vision Center. Need volunteers and donations – contact Kyle.
  · Sequim City Council website accessible for visually impaired persons.

Anna, with the Gazette, advised the group that Ken Hayes is asking for an accessibility map. She wanted input / feedback from the group regarding concerns relating to areas in the community which have become dangerous – for example: roundabouts, broken sidewalks near museum, as well as near 9th and Washington.

Kyle advised the group that there are 2 City Council meetings per month and he plans to attend once a month in order to remain visible to its members.

Another concern shared at the meeting related to the Hybrid car – you cannot hear them coming. Apparently this is a matter being reviewed at a national level.

Sherron invited members to come and speak with her to discuss individual needs. She circulated a variety of pamphlets which included local resources in the community (including Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing and many more).

Kyle briefly discussed "Magic Jack" – internet/phone service as well as cell phone options (which included the track phone).

  Meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
  Respecfully Submitted Sherron Smith
