[nfbwatlk] A question

Lisa,
Not sure who asked the question, but there is no reason why you wouldn't
want to "hold" on to what sight you have left. To be totally blind would
constitute nothing more or less than a slight change in your life style. A
change in life style for many is a daunting proposition at best, and
downright frightening for others. No matter whether we move across the hall
in an apartment complex, or across the country, the change is stressing.
so, when ones method of functioning, particularly concerning the ability to
use a sense like sight is changed, it is natural to be reluctant to change,
and even resistent to whatever occurs. So, the surgery seems to me to be a
natural thing to do, particuarly if it helps you continue as you were.
Now, if it doesn't succeed, and you don't have the eye to help you, I'm sure
you'll become even more proficient in the alternative techniques and skills
you already know, and continue functioning as a math tutor, etc, just as
before, but using a different method of performing the activities.
Don't worry about being fearful, etc, I think we all are when prospects of
change are upon us. I know, I have had two back surgeries, and was
concerned enough about not being able to function as before that I took a
long hard look at my situation before consenting to the operations. And,
they worked out fine for me.
So, don't self examine your concerns too long, best of luck with the
surgery, and just enjoy the fact that others are going to wait on you for a
few days while you recover. (grin.
