Agency Profile:  The mission of the Washington State School for the
Blind is to provide specialized quality educational services to visually
impaired/blind youth ages birth-21 within the state of Washington.  Our
purpose is to serve as a statewide demonstration and resource center and
provide direct/indirect services to students both on campus and in the
children's local communities. Each employee plays a critical role for
the school and our students.  We value our employees and continuously
challenge them to improve the way we provide service to our students and
the community. 

 

Position Profile:  The Washington State School for the Blind has a
Warehouse Operator 2 position open.  The successful candidate will have
the following principal responsibilities:  under the direction of the
Braille Access Center/Instructional Resource Center manager, operates
the campus warehouse.  Duties can include but are not limited to
receiving, recording, storing, issuing and shipping stocks and supplies
to public school districts and agencies that serve students that are
blind and visually impaired; distributes on-campus stock an supplies;
disposes of surplus property; and participates in physical inventories.

 

The successful candidate will have the following:

 

*	High School Graduation or GED certificate 
*	Physical ability to be standing or sitting for long periods of
time 
*	Ability to speak English fluently 
*	Competent computer skills 
*	Ability to work outside as needed regardless of weather
conditions 
*	Ability to lift up to 65 lbs 
*	Must pass Federal and State background check 

 

Desired qualifications include:

 

*	One year of clerical or technical experience in retail clerking,
warehousing, stock-keeping, shipping, or receiving and operation of
material handling equipment. 
*	Knowledge of OSHA/WISHA regulations. 

 

Compensation:   $12.47 to $16.09 per hour 

 

Outstanding benefits including health, dental, life and long-term
disability insurance; vacation, sick, military and civil leave;
dependent care assistance program; employee assistance program; deferred
compensation plans; educational benefits program; 11 paid holidays;
training; and state retirement plans.

Note: This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as
a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to
become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee
equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall
be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's
initial 30 days in this classification.
