After last night's Radio Reading Service Talk Show, it became apparent
that we *must contact our legislators, today, and tomorrow. The House
Appropriations Committee has several members who must be contacted
before a vote, possibly as early as tomorrow concerning the State
budget. Reps, Helen Summers, Hans Dunshee, and Gary Alexander are
vital. They must be called at their Olympia Offices, (you can probably
get their office numbers at the 800 562-;6000 number). They must be
told by each of us at the very least that they must "restore the
Secretary of State's Budget proposal for the Talking Book and Braille
Library."

Then the Senators, Senator Brightmore, Senator Margurita Prentice must
be contacted and told that when the Senate budget comes out on Tuesday
that they must adopt the Secretary of State's proposed budget for the
Talking Book and Braille Library.

Don't just leave a message on the 800 562-6000 number for your
legislator. Take a few extra minutes to contact the folks I have listed
above. The WTBBL is asking for a one time increase in the budget by
approximately $900,000, to cover staff salaries, and the city to state
transition of control in the next two years. There hasn't been a budget
increase for the library for six years.

Call your legislators, even this evening, since they all work late. Sue
Ameter says the WCB has a toll free number you can call to get
information on the specific folks to call, including Olympia phone
numbers. You can call (800) 255-1147 (then press 5). Mike Freeman says
we are all working together for passage of a quality Library budget in
Washington State.

Thanks.
