Greetings, all!

The House version of the 2007-2009 operating budget has just been
released and it does *not* contain increased funding for WTBBL. This is
bad news in that the present funding level does not cover costs,
resulting in a shortfall which must be made up with gift funds or by
trimming expenses. This is *without* factoring in the cost of transition
of operation of WTBBL by the city of Seattle to operation by the
Washington State Library (WSL). This means that we have work to do. WE
must ensure that increased funding for WTBBL is incorporated in the
Senate version of the 2007-2009 budget and, ultimately, in the budget
which results from the reconciliation process to iron out the
differences between the House and Senate versions of the budget.

I will have details on the stratagem we must follow to insure increased
funding for WTBBL shortly. We may have to visit Olympia a la Braille
Days of yore.

Stay tuned.
