Over the weekend I was part of the Whatcom county math olympiad as a proctor
at Whatcom Community College and one of the teams from my section won the
first place trophy. Unfortunately, we only had 115 teams this year (220 teams
last year). I also did not notice any blind children at this event and that
concerns me as a math tutor. I am planning to write letters to all the school
districts and congressman in this region concerning encouraging more support
for math and these types of events. Math is a vital part of learning and
must be supported.
I am going to take math 240 (statistics) next quarter and I am still
tutoring at Whatcom Community College.
I feel very strongly about this topic. In fact, I want to get the student
division going in order to address these topics. Blind students need our help.
Mike, and my fellow NFB members, please encourage and support this endeavor,
we can do a lot of good for blind students to encourage them to flex their
math muscles. It is up to each of us to get involved. Please contact me.

WASAL test.
