The Art of Advocacy: Practical preparation for Representative
Responsibilities

Please join us for the second annual National Advocacy Skills seminar to
be held during the national convention of the National Federation of the
Blind in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, from 2:00-8:00
p.m. in Room A707, Atrium Level, of the Marriott Marquis headquarters
hotel. A one-hour dinner recess will occur from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to
accommodate the length of this year's advocacy program.

An impressive array of nationally recognized experts are scheduled to
discuss advocacy topics including: the art of public speaking, hands-on
strategies for effective writing, individual advocacy techniques that
can be adopted by all representatives, and a treasure-trove of obscure
resources for the resourceful advocate. Blindness-specific areas of
concentration will focus on special education and vocational
rehabilitation. This expanded, interactive agenda is sure to enable the
aspiring advocate to hone his or her skills, cultivate a stronger sense
of self-confidence, and take away practical tips that will last for a
lifetime.

Several presenters anticipate circulating useful handouts to supplement
their remarks. While participants are not required to pre-register for
this seminar, if you know that you will be attending, please send your
preferred format choice (print or Braille) to Dan Frye, seminar
convener, to the contact information provided at the bottom of this
announcement.

Our keynote speaker, NFB First Vice-President Dr. Fredric K. Schroeder
and our concluding presenter, NFB Secretary Gary Wunder, both promise to
inspire and motivate seminar participants with their personal
perspectives and advice. You won't want to miss this dynamic seminar. It
will make a difference to you and to those you ultimately represent.
Come join us and learn to be a quality Federation advocate. You are most
welcome.
