Here is a report from the American Library Association Washington D.C.
office:
The House Appropriations Committee met today. There were 2 amendments
dealing with NLS funding that were offered during the Legislative
Branch Committee mark up. The Republican amendment offered by Rep.
Kingston provided the $19.1 million requested and paid for the
increase by taking money from Capitol construction. The Democrats
amendment provided an increase from the $7.5 million to $12 million
and took money from the GPO budget. The Democrats amendment passed.
There is also legislative language contained in the bill that will
allow the Librarian of Congress to take money from NDIPP to pay for
the NLS program.
Thanks,
Richard J. Smith, Director
