NFB 2007 Convention Tours
As the proud hosts of the national Federation of the Blind 2007 annual
convention, the members of the NFB of Georgia would like to present
conventioneers
with an opportunity to experience a few places that make Atlanta
special.
We have worked to secure limited availability to the following
entertainment
venues during the 2007 NFB National Convention. Please take the time to
review the tour descriptions, and make a request. Please note the time
of
the
tour because it will not be possible to attend tours that are given at
overlapping times. You can feel free to contact the venue directly to
make
your
own reservations for alternative times.
Agatha's Taste of Mystery Dinner Theater
Price: $55.00 per person
Date: Tuesday, July 3, 2007
Time: 7:00-10:00
Description: Agatha's is a comedy murder mystery dinner theater with
audience participation. This was a tremendous hit at our 2004
convention.
All shows
are original comedy murder mysteries that take place in the dining room
between the courses of the meal. There is no stage, and the actors move
around
the diners, so you can see and hear from all seats. Two professional
actors
carry the show. The rest is up to the audience. Participation is
encouraged
but not required. Agatha's serves a five-course meal of appetizer, soup,
salad, choice of entrée, and dessert. Once guests are seated, the
waiters
list
the entrees for you to make your selection. Wine is served with dinner,
beginning with the soup course. The performance will be "Rocky the
Italian
Scallion's
Final Blow." Agatha's Taste of Mystery is only two blocks away from the
Marriott Marquis, so we will be walking from the hotel.
Carter presidential Center
Price: $15.00 per person

Description: The Carter Presidential Center, consisting of the Carter
museum and Carter Library, is located on a 35 acre landscaped park with
two
small
lakes, a serene Japanese Garden designed by Master Gardener Kinsaku
Nakane,
a Rose Garden with more than 40 varieties of roses, a cherry tree
orchard
and
a native oak forest. Changing exhibits are drawn from the library and
museum collections, or are based on themes relating to the presidency
and
American
political history. Many of these are traveling exhibitions from the
Smithsonian Institution, other Presidential Libraries, and other museums
around the
world. The Museum of the Jimmy Carter Library includes photographs and
historical memorabilia from the Carter presidency (1976 - 1981). An
exact
replica
of the Oval Office and gifts received by the Carters are also featured.
A
permanent exhibit of significant events occurring during Jimmy Carter's
life
and political career includes photographs with interpretative text. The
Jimmy Carter Library actively solicits material of Jimmy and Rosalynn
Carter,
material of major figures in the Carter administration or among the
Carters'
political or close personal friends, material of similar figures of
secondary
importance when they document significant aspects of the Carter
administration, and material of President Carter's family.

King.
No trip to Atlanta would be complete without a visit to the birth home
of
Dr.
King, a gospel concert at the celebrated Ebenezer Baptist Church, and a
tour
of the Martin Luther King historic site and visitors center. Just past
noon
on January 15, 1929, a son was born to the Reverend and Mrs. Martin
Luther
King in an upstairs bedroom of 501 Auburn Avenue, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The
couple
named their first son after the Rev. King, but he was simply called M.L.
by
the family. During the next twelve years this fine, two-story Victorian
home
is where M.L. would live with his parents, grandparents, siblings,
aunts,
uncles, and their boarders. The home is located in the residential
section
of
Sweet Auburn, the center of black Atlanta. Two blocks west of the home
is
Ebenezer Baptist Church, the pastorate of Martin's grandfather and
father.
It
was in these surroundings of home, church, and neighborhood that M.L.
experienced his childhood. Here M.L. learned about family and Christian
love, segregation
in the days of Jim Crow laws, diligence, and tolerance. Dr. Martin
Luther
King Jr. returned to Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1960. As co-pastor with
his
father,
Daddy King, Dr. King Jr. would preach about love, equality, and
nonviolence.
