[nfbwatlk] FW: Good News from WA State Ferries for People withHearing Loss!

Last time I was at the Fauntleroy ferry terminal, I looked one of these
machines over. There is no headphone or earphone jack, no keypad and no
speaker or audio output device. When I asked a nearby ferry worker if I
was just missing the jack, she said that there was nothing of the sort
on the machine. I mentioned that as a blind individual this was an
inconvenience to me and that I would not be able to use this machine.
She said that there is always someone in the ticket booth at the top of
the hill and the ticket booth in the ferry house was manned in the
afternoons. Is this how they get around the ADA requirements? Blind and
print disabled individuals will not be able to use these machines and
will be required to purchase their tickets at a ticket booth from a live
person (BTW, they now have the touch screen pads that use the light pen
for the signature and the person in the ticket booth will need to touch
the pen to the "OK" button or enter button on the signature screen. This
type of technology also does not allow a blind person to hold this job
as the technology is not accessible i.e. a blind person manning the
booth is not able to help a blind patron). Is it resolution time?
