While I disagree with the evaluation of Mr. Sanders below, the message
is still worth reading.

Hello to all:
I have learned this afternoon that Ralph Sanders has passed away in Las
Vegas, Nevada. His health has been poor for some time.
Ralph Sanders is the type of person who could do just about anything to
which he put his mind. President of NFB, Executive Director of Blind
Industries and Services of Maryland, Public Relations guru for ACB: he
excelled in all of these positions and many others as well. Ralph may
be
best known and appreciated by the hundreds of individual blind people
who he
has helped over the years with their Randolph-Sheppard Vendor and Social
Security matters
I met Ralph in 1999, and while our demeanor toward one another started
out
as a mutually respectful but distant coolness, we found a strong bond in
our
commitment to blind people and our commitment to ACB. Ralph became a
friend
of the truest sort, somebody on whom I could count on for honesty,
support
and for following through on his accepted tasks. Ralph's commitment to
people and tasks were genuine, not the momentary fancies that pass for
commitment from so many these days.
I will miss Ralph on many levels. From just comparing notes on
technology
to discussing the 5-10 year prognosis of the blind consumer movement,
our
time together was always stimulating, looking toward a brighter future,
and
marked for me by a spirit and intellect from Ralph, singularly uncommon
in
its clarity, range, vision and insightfulness.
I hope that Ralph can find more peace and happiness than he sometimes
felt
in this life, particularly in these past two years. He has earned that
and
more through his many contributions to this community, and for his
caring
about the common blind person whose voice can be so often lost in the
political shuffle.
Chris
