Oh, they see you all right, Mike!
How many times, and how many new words do I learn, when Cathy and I are on 
the road?  Cars, or rather, their driver's look Cathy square in the face and 
pull into an intersection plugging it because they can't clear it before the 
light changes.  Then, as they sit there blocking traffic, they look straight 
ahead as if they haven't a care in the world.
How often have we stopped to allow some poor soul to cross at a cross walk, 
only to have some crazy idiot zoom past us on the right, nearly taking the 
cringing soul out.
Fools zip past us, cell phone to the ear, on curves, ducking into traffic 
just before the crash.
We have examined more middle fingers over the past 12 years than there are 
legs on a thousand centipedes.  Rude has replaced courtesy, selfish has 
replaced helpful, kindness is considered to be stupid, thoughtfulness is 
seen as a sign of weakness.
And I believe much of this behavior change has come about because people 
feel safe, strong and invulnerable in their huge motorized cocoons.
When we traveled on foot or by horse we were not as protected from our 
environment and needed to extend a helping hand in exchange for help from 
others.  We were out there without protection, other than our trusty six 
shooter, and we dared not be so pushy and bold.
Ah well, there I go, longing for "the good old days".
