[nfbwatlk] Fw: clean cars and noise

Oh, they see you all right, Mike!
How many times, and how many new words do I learn, when Cathy and I are on
the road? Cars, or rather, their driver's look Cathy square in the face and
pull into an intersection plugging it because they can't clear it before the
light changes. Then, as they sit there blocking traffic, they look straight
ahead as if they haven't a care in the world.
How often have we stopped to allow some poor soul to cross at a cross walk,
only to have some crazy idiot zoom past us on the right, nearly taking the
cringing soul out.
Fools zip past us, cell phone to the ear, on curves, ducking into traffic
just before the crash.
We have examined more middle fingers over the past 12 years than there are
legs on a thousand centipedes. Rude has replaced courtesy, selfish has
replaced helpful, kindness is considered to be stupid, thoughtfulness is
seen as a sign of weakness.
And I believe much of this behavior change has come about because people
feel safe, strong and invulnerable in their huge motorized cocoons.
When we traveled on foot or by horse we were not as protected from our
environment and needed to extend a helping hand in exchange for help from
others. We were out there without protection, other than our trusty six
shooter, and we dared not be so pushy and bold.
Ah well, there I go, longing for "the good old days".
