[nfbwatlk] Fw: clean cars and noise

Brother, have you got *that* right!
Actually, I suspect that, simply by the law of averages, a sighted
pedestrian will be killed long before a blind pedestrian is sent into the
Next World. That doesn't negate the problem, however; it just points out
that quiet cars are a problem for *all* pedestrians.
In fact (and I'd bet you'd agree with me on this one, Carl), I believe that
the real problem we face here is that there has been a paradigm shift from a
pedestrian-centered model of traffic flow to a vehicular-centered model.
Last night when I proposed to cross the street to the local Safeway pharmacy
to get some meds and test strips, three cars in succession turned right out
of the parking lot, thus damn near taking up all of my time during the
cycle. I uttered a few choice words. I don't mind waiting for *one* vehicle
to turn right -- but methinks the other two should have waited for me to
cross (I'm certain they saw me). Vain expectation!
Mike

Okay Mike, that's true. But I'm mostly worried about the cars that are
moving, my direction.
Actually, I do see your point. I've been about to cross an intersection
just as someone turned the key and gunned the engine. Good thing my shoes
were tied on tightly.
