Andrea,

Yours is one of the most intelligent and articulate posts I have read on
this list.

I went to WCB's convention to learn what they are doing so effectively to
build their organization. Their comfort level with varying degrees of
efficiency re blindness skills was good to see. They also try to hook
newbees up with more experienced members. They do a great deal to make new
people feel at home. They had a breakfast for first timers, for example.
Of course, they are bigger and have enough people to spread the work around.

Organization building is a real talent, and Cindy has that in spades. She
did a great deal to organize the peninsula.

Each organization brings to the table its own unique approach to blindness.
Both outfits contribute. But it is confusing to the general public who do
not understand the subtle and not-so-subtle differences.

We need new people with enthusiasm and fresh ideas. How to achieve this is
very complex, and I don't pretend to have the answer. However, I am glad to
see discussion of this topic. Perhaps we can come up with some solutions
through thoughtful reflection.
