[nfbwatlk] and another thing...

It is amazing how little time there was between innings sixty or seventy
years ago. I have that broadcast from Sept. 21, 1939, of WJSV and
although Walter Johnson as an announcer leaves something to be desired,
it is really an ear-opener to realize how fast the game went and how
little time there was between innings.

Incidentally, I do remember some Montgomery-Wards ads on Portland
Beavers games during the 1960's and, I think, some ads for Swift hotdogs
(one wonders if Ballpark franks were around then).

And Ben, there's talk on one of the local radio stations that the
current Beavers owner is thinking of changing the name due to supposed
confusion with the oregon State team. Bah humbug!

Mike

Very true. And unfortunatley I am old enough to remember those
shorter
games. The old Seattle Rainiers with Leo Lassen announcing, would
begin at
8:00 PM. and be over before 10:00 PM.
In fact, I could go to the game from Queen Anne hill in north Seattle,
out
to the ball yard in Rainier valley and be home by bus, by 10:30 PM.
Many folks would get off work, go to dinner and then on to the game.
Today
you couldn't get through traffic in that amount of time.
